The GTHBA was established in 1921 and is comprised of land developers, home builders, professional renovation contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, service, professional and financial firms. Members of the GTHBA and the organization itself prides itself on being affiliated with the Ontario and Canadian Home Builders' Associations'.
Any business or tradesperson involved in the residential construction industry in Greater Toronto MUST be a member of the GTHBA. The GTHBA protects the interest of consumers by improving the quality and integrity of the industry, and by encouraging innovation and excellence in the construction of new homes and in the renovation industry. They support and encourage home ownership through three major home shows annually, regular consumer seminars, and the publication of information of interest to home buyers and homeowners.
The GTHBA works to encourage governments at all levels to establish policies in support of affordable home ownership. They regularly raise issues with the federal, provincial, regional and local governments that affect the cost of building a new house in the GTA.
Consumer education efforts that they initiate are very popular, with more than 200,000 visitors attending three home shows each year, and full houses every time they offer seminars for first-time home or condo buyers. They also offer free 15-minute consultations with a professional renovator.
